Bus carrying over 40 Vaishno Devi pilgrims catches fire, no casualties reported

Sources said the Banihal route bus No. JK02AV 4683 was on its way from Katra to Jammu railway station at that time. However, there were no injuries or casualties as all the people managed to get out on time.

Over 40 Vaishno Devi pilgrims had a narrow escape when the bus in which they were traveling suddenly caught fire at Maira bridge near Katra of Saturday evening.
Sources said the Banihal route bus No. JK02AV 4683 was on its way from Katra to Jammu railway station at that time. However, there were no injuries or casualties as all the people managed to get out on time.
According to SHO Katra police station Inspector Kuldeep Krishan, police were looking for the bus driver to find out details. “We got a phone call around 6 pm that vehicular traffic on the road was disrupted as a bus had caught fire. We along with fire tenders immediately reached there, but the bus driver and the passengers were not present on the spot,” he added.
While the fire brigade personnel started extinguishing the fire, police became busy in clearing the jam by regulating traffic, the SHO said. The bus had totally damaged in the fire, he said, adding that its cause was being ascertained.
