Arsenal suffer transfer blow as £25m target William Carvalho is ruled out for three months with foot injury

Arsenal's chances of signing summer target William Carvalho appear to have been scuppered as the Sporting Lisbon midfielder has been ruled out for three months.
Carvalho, who has been frequently linked with a move to Arsenal, will be sidelined for the first few months of the season after being diagnosed with a stress fracture of the tibia.
The 23-year-old played a major role in Portugal's route to the Under 21 European Championship final, where he was named player of the tournament following his fine performances in the Czech Republic.

Manchester United have previously shown an interest in the Portugal international, however they switched their attention to fellow central midfielders Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Both Arsenal and Manchester United were among 122 sides who sent scouts to the tournament to keep tabs on prospective transfer targets at the Under 21 European Championship.

Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon revealed on their official Twitter account that Carvalho would be out for between 10 to 12 weeks.
Carvalho is said to have a release clause of around £25million inserted into his current contract at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
